Shay & Blue – Atropa Belladonna
Shay & Blue is a boutique perfumery, established in London in 2012. Their aim is to place an innovative twist on to traditional fine fragrances, handcrafted using real flowers, fruit and natural spices. The intoxicating, Atropa Belladonna, Italian for ‘Beautiful Lady’ provides a decadent scent that will truly ignite your senses. The top note of dark cassis berries is the most prominent and on a first impression reminded me of ‘parma violets’ sweets. This is blended together with the rich scent of white narcissus and jasmine flowers, and the subtle aroma of bourbon vanilla which creates the base note. I would say that Atropa Belladonna is not for the faint-hearted; its scent is extremely deep and rich – I find that one or two spritz’s is just enough. I prefer to use a lighter fragrance in the day and something a bit more ‘heavy’ at night, so I would only ever reach for this before going out in the evening.
Although, the design of the bottle is kept simple, I love the nautical-esque theme of the packaging. The compact shape of the bottle makes it portable and is the perfect size for a small handbag or clutch.
This perfume really captures the essence of an authentic, traditional scent, standing in its own league as a unique and individual product.
