An interview with New Look Fashion

If you follow my blog (or any of my social media accounts), you’ll know that I recently attended London Fashion Week and whilst there, worked with the lovely New Look team by dabbling in a spot of filming and lounging in their fabulous Refuel room (read about it here). This week, they contacted me to find out about my experience and asked me to share some info about LFW and my blog:

What was your favourite part of the New Look Refuel room?
This one is difficult! I loved everything about it, but if I have to narrow it down I’d say my favourite part was the origami making. It was such a cute, fun and different aspect and certainly something I never thought I’d be doing during fashion week! The instructor, Sesame, showed me how to make a little pair of origami stilettos, which actually wasn’t as tricky as I expected. He’d also made an origami blouse and skirt. So cute!

Was there a key fashion theme running through this year’s LFW?
Sports luxe was a big contender on the catwalk this season, with many designers showcasing over-sized slogan sweaters, graphic print crop tops with matching shorts, and zip-up bomber jackets. I’m not a sporty person, nor do I tend to dress overly casual, but I’ve become a huge fan of the ‘sportswear meets chic’ trend. I love how it’s the perfect mix of high-fashion and comfort, without looking like you’re about to run the 10k.

Do you have any tips for making the most out of your time at LFW?
Be the most organised person ever! I keep a notebook and pen in my bag to write down my schedule for each day, so which shows/presentations I’ll be attending and any hair/beauty appointments I have booked. This way I can work out how much free time I have in between to peruse the exhibitions, take some street style snaps and sit and do some blogging. It’s surprising how easily you lose track of time when there’s so much going on around you.

Also, take every opportunity you can get. Fashion week is the home of networking and adding contacts to that little black book is extremely important in this industry. So if you see someone you recognise and have the chance to speak to them, go for it. Ask them a few questions; give them your contact card, anything! It can be quite daunting at first but you’ll be kicking yourself if you missed out on the chance to liaise with the editor of your favourite fashion mag just because you felt a bit embarrassed.

If you could sit in the front row with all the celebs, who would you want to sit next to?
Without a shadow of a doubt, the one and only, Anna Wintour. I’m not really one to ‘fan girl’ over a celeb, but this woman is everything I aspire to be. I mean, who doesn’t want to be Queen of Vogue?! I’m determined to fill her shoes in the future!

Describe your experience at LFW in 3 words.
Exciting, inspiring and hectic!

What would you say are your biggest challenges as a blog owner?
Sometimes it’s hard to find a balance between my busy work schedule and blogging, so my biggest challenge is most definitely making sure that I stay on top of my blog alongside interning. I really miss blogging when I’m tied down with work commitments; I think it’s important to blog regularly because there’s nothing worse than long stretches of zero posts!

Thanks, New Look! And hope those of you reading enjoyed this little interview! Make sure you click here to check out New Look’s LFW fashion page.

My everyday face: Cat-eye & Lipstick

Topshop liquid liner in 'Black Cab' - £7* MAC lipstick in 'Media' - £15*

Topshop liquid liner in ‘Black Cab’ – £7*
MAC lipstick in ‘Media’ – £15*

It’s been a while since my last beauty post, so I thought I’d take a step back from everything fashion related and give you an insight into my everyday makeup look. It’s extremely rare for me to leave the house without makeup, mainly due to the fact that I enjoy wearing it and partly due to the fact that I don’t want to give the general public a fright. So on a normal day, I’ll wear a simple cat-eye flick and on most days, brighten it up with a shade of lipstick.

Usually, I prefer to use an eyeliner pen but recently I’ve been loving this Topshop liquid liner. As long as you have a steady hand it’s really quite easy to apply, although admittedly the thickness of my flick tends to vary day to day! For a high-street product, it’s really very durable, lasting the whole day without smudging or fading.

For this look I opted for my MAC lipstick in ‘Media’, which is a deep plum colour and the perfect autumn shade. There hasn’t been a MAC lipstick which I’ve tried and haven’t loved. They last a good few hours before needing a top-up and don’t feel too ‘heavy’ on the lips. Just remember to moisturise frequently!

OOTD – Black cut out boots

Surprise surprise, I’m wearing all black again. As much as it pains me to say, summer is officially over, so I’d like to call this my ‘mourning the end of summer outfit’…yeah, right, I’m only trying to justify my obsession with black. But I guess it’s a classic wardrobe tone after all.

So here I am in my garden and judging from the photos, not really taking my blog pictures very seriously at all. I’m wearing my simple chain strap cami and my one and only disco pants. If you’ve seen my post from two days ago, you’ll know that I recently purchased this silver and gold watch, which means that I now have a real excuse to mix gold and silver jewellery. Yay!

I kindly borrowed (stole) these cut out boots from my sister and despite her being a shoe size smaller than me, I was determined to squeeze my tootsies inside because they’re just so damn pretty. Hopefully I haven’t stretched them into a size 6; otherwise she’ll be none the wiser.

London Fashion Week SS14

I hope you’re all prepared for a very image-heavy post. I’ve just been dying to share my LFW snaps with you. These are the best of a good bunch so it was difficult to cut them down! I can’t express how amazing my week was. I say this each time but I do really wish I could take my friends and family with me so that they can experience just how fun/overwhelming/exciting it truly is. Despite this being my third time at fashion week, each day is just as new and incredible as my very first visit. I got to sit on the renowned ‘frow’ quite a few times this season and felt the urge to pinch myself on each occasion! Although I didn’t manage to spot the Queen herself (Ms. Anna Wintour), I did sit directly behind Jo Elvin (editor of Glamour mag) at the Anya Hindmarch show which was pretty cool in itself, especially when I saw her take a cheeky pic and upload it to her twitter a few seconds later….(stalker alert). As for Anna Wintour, maybe next season…But I’ll stop babbling and let the pictures do the talking.

With neon and leather being my most favourite trends of SS13, piecing this outfit together really took no time at all. Although you can’t tell in the photos, it was raining heavily and since I’d forgotten my umbrella, my clutch bag stood as a replacement for the remainder of the day (not cool, I know). I purchased my neon jumper from Boohoo and teamed it with my leather pleated skirt and a white blouse to add an overall schoolgirl-esque feel to the outfit. I’m really into the whole schoolgirl trend with all of the cutesy collars, pleats, tartan and T-bar shoes. It’s definitely a big hit on my autumn/winter lust list. My clutch bag is from Primark and I think the neon laser cut detail matches my jumper perfectly.

Hope you like this outfit!

New Look Refuel Lounge at LFW SS14

Whilst at London Fashion Week, I was approached by the New Look fashion team and asked to do some filming for New Look TV. Without hesitation, I jumped at the opportunity and was invited back to their Refuel lounge in the Waldorf Hilton hotel just moments away from the buzz at Somerset House. The lounge had been created as a hangout for bloggers to come and relax in between shows. It was more than I anticipated, with an in-house Dj, plenty of delicious food, a photobooth, Elemis beauty hand massages and manicures, makeup and semi-permanent eyelashes zone, Crush smoothies and origami skirts and stiletto making. It really was a wonderful and exciting set-up and a lovely place to retreat and escape from the horrible weather outside! I did a bit of filming (video below. Watch me from 3.24) where I chose two of my favourite items from the New Look rail to talk about.

As a thank you, I was gifted a lovely goodie bag with a selection of Elemis beauty treats AND a £50 voucher to spend online at New Look! Seeing as we’re entering the autumn/winter trend season, I really should have purchased the boots I spoke about in the video, but I was swayed by these cut out sandals and they won me over instead. They’re real leather too, so should last me through to next summer. But for now, I think I’ll wear them mostly with a pair of frilly socks in order to save my little tootsies from suffering frostbite! I also chose this silver and gold mesh strap watch which will be ideal for those days when I don’t feel like wearing my chunky Marc Jacobs. I also wear a lot of silver jewellery so it will match perfectly. And I couldn’t resist an extra little purchase, so I treated myself to these adorable fingertip rings. How cute?!

Thanks for a super fun day, New Look! Shop their collection here.

Hair band - Dorothy Perkins Dress - Primark Jacket - Gharani Strok Boots - Topshop

Being ever the optimist and still trying (and failing) to hold on tight to summer, I opted for bare legs and a floral hair band on probably the coldest, rainiest day of LFW. Nevertheless I was happy to wear my beloved Gharani Strok studded jacket, which I only pull out on special occasions as I don’t want to ruin/overwear it. I was caught slightly off guard in the first picture, (hence the awkward expression and stance) but here I am in my go-to signature black ensemble. Not much to say about this outfit seeing as it’s really very simple, but thanks to the man behind the lens for sending me these hi-res images after street-style spotting me with his super cool camera.

Also, I had a few hours to kill in between my show schedule so I paid a visit to the Toni & Guy press salon for a much needed haircut, so big thanks to them for dealing so well with what initially resembled a bird’s nest!

If you follow my blog/twitter/instagram then I’m sure my mass updates will have fully informed you that this week I was at London Fashion Week for the Spring/Summer 2014 collections. Despite this being my third fashion week visit, I still get overly excited about anything and everything that’s #LFW (apologies for those who have seen me write this a billion times) related. This time round was by far my favourite LFW to date and although I was out of the house by 9am everyday and rushing around London to attend shows and appointments through to the evening, I wouldn’t have had it any other way.

I gave my Boohoo tartan pinafore its first outing on day two, teaming it with my Asos cold shoulder turtleneck crop and simple black tights (to at least keep half of my body warm). Tartan is already my current favourite Autumnal trend and this pinafore certainly does it justice. I never thought I’d be wearing a pinafore past the age of 5 let alone at 21, so it’s nice to bring back a touch of schoolgirl-esque! The clutch is actually a tablet holder from Topshop. I like the clash of tartan prints offset by the two different colour schemes. If double denim is in, then so is double tartan.

I’ll be posting more LFW updates over the next few days so watch this space.

London Fashion Week Lust List

LFW lust list
With LFW just a few sleeps away (SO EXCITED), I thought I’d make a little list of the pretty things I’ve been lusting after recently. Although it’s probably too late for me to purchase anything else before I head down to London and despite a couple of my lusts being slightly unattainable due to insufficient bank funds, a girl can dream can’t I?!

1. Boohoo Leena tartan pinafore – This little beaut arrived in my post box today and I love love loveee it! Seeing as I’m going to blog about my LFW outfits, I won’t give too much away just yet. But let’s say it may/may not (definitely does) involve a cheeky bit of turtle neck and cold shoulder.

2. Asos Monk strap cut out shoes – I’m obsessed with cut out shoes atm. My fashion tastes keep changing and I find myself loving items I’d loathed just a few months back! I guess that’s the beauty of fashion, right?! These were in the sale for a mere £16.50, but silly old me missed out *sobs*.

3. River Island polka dot dungarees – As you can probably tell, pinafores and dungarees are my current fashion faves. The polka dots are too cute. I can see me wandering around Somerset House in this with a pair of little black ankle boots. Ahh.

4. The Row sunglasses – Perhaps slightly out of my budget at a hefty £260, but it is a ‘lust’ list after all. I purchased a pair of round sunnies in Amsterdam for 5 euros and then lost them about an hour later and haven’t seen the perfect pair since! I know I’ll end up resorting to ebay…

5. Marc by Marc Jacobs holographic clutch – Another unattainable lust (until I become Anna Wintour). I know holographic items can look tacky, but I love how the little accessories like clutches and phone cases look against a black outfit!

Hope you like my fashion week lusts. Stay tuned for my LFW blog posts, twitter (@sheevamarie1) and instagram (@sheevamarie1) updates!
